The Still Point
Nicholas Ilechie / / 2 min read

Everything swings.
Up and down.
Love and loss.
Faith and doubt.
It’s not personal — it’s law.
This is the rhythm of existence.
The pendulum doesn’t ask your permission. It just moves.
And most people?
They chase the highs like addicts,
and curse the lows like victims.
But the more you grip, the more you bleed.
The more you resist the rhythm, the more violently it drags you.
Here’s the secret:
Resist the swing, and you are broken by it.
Dance with it, and you discover the still point at the center.
There’s a place in you — not outside — where the pendulum doesn’t reach.
That center is silence.
That center is power.
Not loud power. Not desperate power.
The power that watches storms without flinching.
When you stop identifying with the swing,
you stop being the swing.
You’re no longer the joy or the sorrow.
You’re the witness.
You’re the space in which they happen
And that space is unshaken.
Learn to master your emotions as the pendulum teaches you.
Don’t avoid them — walk through them, torch in hand.
Let them burn, but don’t let them blind you.
Feel them, name them, then release them — not because you’ve grown cold, but because you’ve learned: emotion is a visitor, not a master.
It teaches, then it leaves.
But you stay.
The wise don’t avoid emotion.
They feel, but don’t drown.
They move, but don’t chase.
They surrender, but never collapse.
Why?
Because they’ve touched the center.
The eye of the storm.
The part of the soul that neither rises nor falls — it just is.
So let the swing swing.
Let life move.
But be still.
And from that stillness, act.
