Everyone Wants Salvation, Nobody Wants the Cross
Nicholas Ilechie / / 3 min read

A Raw Reflection
Everyone wants salvation.
Nobody wants the cross.
We love the promise, hate the process.
We want resurrection — without death.
Glory — without grit.
But that’s not how this thing works.
Israel’s story?
God carried them.
Fed them.
Fought for them.
They grumbled — He still came through.
Cloud by day, fire by night.
Bread from heaven, meat from the sky.
Favor on a golden platter.
All because of a covenant with Abraham.
Not because they deserved it — but because God said so.
But then came Christ.
And the script flipped.
Christ obeyed fully — and still suffered.
He loved perfectly — and still bled.
He walked in truth — and got nailed to wood.
And what did He say?
“If you’ll follow Me, carry your cross.”
Not your blessings.
Not your miracles.
Your. Cross.
That’s not the Israelite experience.
That’s a deeper path. A heavier one.
One soaked in blood and brokenness.
Paul followed.
Got shipwrecked. Beaten. Jailed. Rejected.
He didn’t preach prosperity — he preached endurance.
He said, “I glory in weakness.”
That’s wild.
So, if your Christianity is soft,
If you think pain means you missed God,
If you think suffering is proof you failed;
You weren’t reading the same Book.
The Bible is clear:
- Moses never touched the Promised Land.
- David’s family tore itself apart.
- Elijah wanted to die.
- Jesus was murdered.
- Paul was left for dead.
This is not a transactional religion.
This is not “I serve so God must bless me.”
This is war.
And every real soldier bleeds.
Stop expecting a smooth ride.
Faithfulness doesn't exempt you from fire.
It qualifies you to walk through it.
You tithed? Good.
You served? Amazing.
You gave your all? Beautiful.
Now here comes the valley.
Will you still believe?
The preachers today
Some of them will lie to you.
They’ll say: if you just sow big enough, pray long enough, cry loud enough — everything will align.
But ask Job. Ask Paul. Ask Jesus.
Sometimes God doesn’t align your world.
Sometimes He lets it burn
So He can show you He’s still there… in the ashes.
And yes, God tests.
He tested Abraham.
Tested Israel.
Tested even Jesus.
Don’t confuse testing with temptation.
Temptation tries to destroy you.
Testing tries to reveal you.
And here’s the truth most won’t say:
Sometimes the darkness isn’t demonic — it’s developmental.
Sometimes the cloud isn’t punishment — it’s preparation.
Sometimes your suffering is just life being life.
And God lets you sit in it — to grow.
So don’t call every pain the devil.
Don’t call every delay a curse.
Sometimes it’s just the weight of your own calling.
And when you fall?
Get up.
When it’s dark?
Wait.
When it hurts?
Worship.
Let your servitude be rooted in truth — not entitlement.
Don’t serve God like a stock market.
Don’t sacrifice like He owes you returns.
Serve because He is worthy.
Follow because it is right.
Carry your cross — because it is your calling.
And when you can’t see the sun, remember:
It’s still shining behind the clouds.
Peace doesn’t always come wrapped in pleasure.
Sometimes it’s the silence in your storm.
So suffer well.
Serve well.
Endure well.
Because this road?
This narrow, painful, blood-soaked road?
It ends in glory.
And that… is enough.
