Effect of Life Scarcity and Abundance

Nicholas Ilechie / / 8 min read

Was working and a funny thought sprang into my mind

While I was in Nigeria we always get rainfall cause it's a tropical region,  And for such reason, we need not pray for it rather we sometimes even pray for it not to fall.

But here in the UAE, a year comes and goes and there might be no rainfall, hence when the rain eventually pours it becomes a piece of news in the media and everyone is happy.

Lol, the first time I saw rain in Dubai I literally went out to put my hands and check if it was real water, the joy I felt was unexplainable yet this is the same rainfall I get always in the past so what’s the difference?

Simply Scarcity.

In like manner, while I was a kid in Nigeria, it was strange to see white folk, so peradventure we saw the white folks in the streets of Benin city we marveled and thought "oh this person is special" (cause they are different from us)

I still can remember the first time I saw a white man as a kid, I literally thought this person was an angel and really wanted to touch him to see if their skin was like mine or if they are human like me, hahaha.

But then I grew older and it became a norm, and then I got to Ethiopia, Turkey, Georgia, and UAE and saw more white folks, mixed, and black folks altogether, then my mind was a bit more enlightened.

Then I started seeing more white folks and the marvelous feeling I used to have was no more than a neutral one, What Changed?

Simply Abundance

Then I traveled to Tbilisi, Georgia, and back in 2018 they too saw me as black and think I’m special cause am different, hahaha, so they would want to touch me to feel the texture of my skin, and sometimes even try to feel the texture of my hair.

Lol, why would they think so?

Simply Scarcity

But over time more blacks populated Tbilisi and scarcity became abundance, now you are no more special being a black, but rather neutral as they are more of your race, but when you travel further out of Tbilisi into the more remote places in Georgia that same special feeling arises again, hahaha.

In the same manner, a person living in Africa who never has seen snowfall thinks to himself, "oh wow this is a wonder, it's amazing, and even prays for it. Lol"

I recall before leaving Africa for Europe, oh I had my first encounter with snowfall in Ethiopia albeit a light one.

But I’d always thought intense snowfall was some special kind of ice that falls from heaven and when I’d seen it in Christmas movies I’d pray and wish to play in it.

Lol but eventually I got to Europe and I was anticipating Winter intensely, then winter came and in Bakuriani I experienced my first snowfall, only to find out that the snow was just the same as the ice we had in our freezers back in Nigeria, and nothing special, crazy enough you’d have to kit so hard and heavy in order to play in it.

But of course, it was the most beautiful and heartwarming experience I had back in 2018 December. And all this was due to one reason.

Scarcity

But then, just after the first year, I got tired of snow and started disliking the same winter I’d once prayed for because of the disadvantage of it (not being able to stay out, always in need of a heater, always putting on heavy jackets, increased expenses and so on) but this was same winter I once prayed for lol.

So what changed?

Abundance

Now, what’s the moral of this short story?

Scarcity sometimes amplifies the importance of things and makes us overvalue things beyond what they actually worth.

And also an abundance of things makes us too complacent and perhaps forget the value of a thing that is worth much more than we give to it.

This happens always in our daily life, even in relationships, marriages, and business.

We sometimes may be in a relationship with the genuineness of heart but along the line, we get too comfortable with all our partner does for us and it becomes a norm, then someone else comes with some shiny stuff that perhaps our partner does and made us felt special in the past now the new person does the same thing in a different way and immediately we see it as something new or different and the scarcity mindset pops in and makes us think what we used to have is nothing compared to this new thing and soon, if we get carried away and despise what we used to have and fall for the new shiny object we would soon find ourself getting tired of that new thing and then wondering at heart “What went wrong?"

Simply put “Abuse

In the same manner, we find people jumping from church to church looking for prosperity or blessing or favor or healing, and after endless searches don’t find anything fruitful and we think God is fake or Christ is Fake or the Pastor is fake, LOL, NAAAH

The fact is, you haven’t figured out your problems yet, which are unbelief, lack of faith, self-centeredness, misunderstanding of the scriptures, and absence of Truth in your life.?

Soon when you start working on yourself then clarity comes and all are added.

Don’t get me wrong I’m not saying you should stay in a relationship you are treated poorly or abused, no no no am in no support of that.

Neither am I saying you should stay in a place that also abuses you and makes no provision for your growth and well-being, no no no I’m in no support of that.

All I’m saying is we must learn to know and fix the root cause of a problem and not just the problem itself

  1. We must learn to never forget the purpose of our existence, as blacks we must learn to see ourselves as special and not think just because someone else is white that makes him more special or more beautiful than we are in like manners as whites we must learn to see ourselves as special not because someone else has a stronger texture of hair than we do that makes them more special than we are.
  1. Cherish what you have while also appreciating the beauty in others, while you don’t pray for rainfall others are praying for it, in the same manner, there are lots of things in your life you may think you aren’t praying for or taking for granted others are praying hard for it. Hence learn to value what you have always and make the most use of it rather than being complacent and abusing it.
  2. Rekindle things always. Know that the human mind will always be the human mind and our wants are sometimes insatiable but contentment must be put in check. Rather than hating winter perhaps during winter, I take a trip to another city and after winter I come back to my home. - Solves the problem instead of categorizing I hate this country or city because of winter.

See, winter is only a phase of 4months in the whole year, it doesn’t last forever… Secondly, rather than be bitter about the rainfall, make drums and irrigation systems that can help you maximize the use of the rainfall for future purposes and when the rain is no more, you can make use of the water in reserves. Rainfall is only a phase in the whole year or week.

In the same manner, after a while, you’d also want the rain to fall but if you had cursed the rain and run to the desert then you’d never see the rain again and soon start praying for what you once had.

Same as the man who hates winter, soon you desert the country and eventually you find yourself praying for the same winter you once despised, or maybe not.

This happens a lot in most parts of life;

Money: Lack of money makes you see the rich as “Gods or powerful”, abundance of it neutralizes that thought.

Sex: Lack of sex makes you jump into relationships or cheat and then the abundance comes and you realize that shouldn’t be the priority.

Knowledge: Lack of knowledge makes you look foolish but then the abundance of it perhaps brings more pain

And so on…..

Learn to cherish what you have and make the best out of it while appreciating others.

Always travel you’d learn a lot when you pay attention.

The UAE does have not much rainfall, but the Emiratis didn’t leave the country to find another land with rainfall rather they created a system to generate artificial rainfall.

Now as a fool you’d think “oh this country is all fake and artificial but as a wise man you’d think differently about how much they love what they have and make the most use of it."

In the same manner, it's a desert here but the irrigation and water pathway created by the men is so amazing that the city doesn’t really look like a desert.

UAE is no artificial place it’s a city where men work like Gods and bring their imagination to reality, valuing what they have and making the most out of it.

In the same manner, should you do your best to make the most use of what you have rather than complain and focus on the negatives?

Find a solution to the problem and not focus too much on the problem…

And the solution is never found in running away 😅

Go head-on with it and of a surety, a way must come out ✌🏼
