Broken
Nicholas Ilechie / / 2 min read

She lies to herself
That she got no expectations
But her eyes betray her
For they are full of aspirations
Hiding behind the text
She masks her identity
But deep within lies a scared little child
Crying to be loved in reality
Afraid of vulnerability
She stays on guard
But somehow he came
and breached her walls
Frightened she was
I can't risk loving she said
To lock her heart
She must be cold
Insecurities took her off guard
Running away from herself
Made her heart frail
Glimpse of light now dims into darkness
And into the cave, she dives
She craves control
But to love is to be vulnerable
Confused in her path
She hangs onto herself
A belief she enacted
Unwilling to renew
Trauma from time past
A broken and battered child she is
Hoping to find salvation
Yet living in self damnation
She said to herself
What could I be doing wrong?
Yet the truth lies in front
If only she could take off the veil
Am I good enough?
Seeking validation
Will I be loved
Unending Frustration
Will my heart be broken
Inspired hesitations
Thoughts layered on thoughts
A false reality created
To protect a status quo
Where she feels shielded
But the world is out there
And not within the skull.
Breathe, Love and Live
He said to her
Pain is a part of life
To live is to embrace suffering
In hopes of a better life.
With Love
